Israel stopped a missile fired from Yemen on Saturday, the first time it faced fire from that country since the war in the Middle East erupted last month.
Sirens went off around Beer Sheba and the area near Israel’s main nuclear research center for the third time overnight Friday into Saturday.
The Houthis, a rebel group backed by Tehran who have held Yemen’s capital since 2014, have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a military spokesman for the Houthis, issued the claim in a statement aired Saturday morning by the rebels’ Al-Masirah satellite television.
