Trump reportedly rejects offer from Putin to move Iran’s uranium to Russia

A US news website has reported that US President Donald Trump turned down an offer from Russian President Vladimir Putin to move Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia. It said the proposal was part of a deal to end the US-Israeli military operation against Iran.

Axios published the story on Friday, citing sources who said Putin made the proposal in phone talks on Monday with Trump.

The report said Russia made a similar offer in the weeks before the United States and Israel began air strikes on Iran.

The Trump administration has said stopping Iran from possessing nuclear weapons is a core mission of the ongoing military operation.

Media reports say the administration may be weighing sending forces to seize Iran’s enriched uranium.

Asked about the possibility in a Fox News Radio interview aired on Friday, Trump said: “We’re not focused on that. But at some point we might be.”

Also on the day, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters that the US retains options “across the spectrum” to ensure Iran never possesses nuclear weapons.
