Donald Trump has again hit out at Sir Keir Starmer over the UK’s involvement in the Iran conflict, saying “we don’t need people that join wars after we’ve already won”-

It comes after the Ministry of Defence said it was increasing the preparedness of HMS Prince of Wales and reducing the time it would take to deploy.

The US President posted on his Truth Social platform: “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East.

“That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won!”

Trump’s post comes amid mounting tension between the two countries over Starmer’s decision not to join the initial US-Israel strikes on Iran.

Speaking on Air Force One in response to a question about the use of UK bases in the war, Trump referred to his post on Truth Social, saying: “We don’t need them”, appearing to reference the carriers.

He added: “It’s not the right time. It would have been nice to have them two weeks ago.”

The UK government has remained clear that it has no interest in joining the wider offensive campaign in the Middle East.
