US President Donald Trump tells NBC News in an interview that he believes reports of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death are correct.
“We feel that that is a correct story,” Trump tells NBC News in a phone interview, according to a report on its website.Israel’s Channel 12 reported Saturday that an Israeli official said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated during Israeli strikes, claiming his body was recovered from rubble “riddled with shrapnel.”
According to the N12 report, documentation of Khamenei’s body is in Israel’s possession and was presented to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the security establishment. The broadcaster attributed the claim to an unnamed Israeli source.
In a public statement cited by the outlet, Netanyahu said “this war will bring true peace” and added that Khamenei’s compound in central Tehran had been destroyed.
He also said there were increasing signs that “the dictator is gone,” without explicitly confirming the Iranian leader’s death.
Earlier Saturday, Iranian media reported that Khamenei’s son in law and daughter in law were killed in the attacks.
There has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding Khamenei’s status.
The reported assassination comes amid a sharp military escalation between Israel and Iran, with regional governments on heightened alert.
