This afternoon, he joined White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt for a press briefing to mark one full year of his second term. Earlier Tuesday, Trump released private messages between himself and Emmanuel Macron, in which the French president questioned Trump’s end game with Greenland.
“My friend, we are totally in line on Syria, we can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron wrote, per a screenshot shared on Truth Social.
Later on Tuesday, Trump will travel to Davos in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum, where he will meet with several of these allies amid his mounting pressure.
Back in Washington, the Supreme Court released opinions and heard oral arguments on a case involving gun restrictions in Hawaii.
The Senate is in recess, while House members make their way back to Washington as a Jan. 31 shutdown deadline looms. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), meanwhile, is in London, where he spoke to the U.K. Parliament.
Tensions in Minnesota are still high, as the Trump administration has boosted federal law enforcement’s presence in the state amid massive protests following two Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer-involved shootings in Minneapolis.
