Ford recalls more than 300,000 vehicles in Canada”

Transport Canada announced a recall for more than 300,000 Ford vehicles in two separate recalls for the risk of a short circuit that can cause a fire.

Transport Canada announced a recall for more than 300,000 Ford vehicles in two separate recalls for the risk of a short circuit that can cause a fire.

“On certain vehicles, the engine block heater could leak coolant,” both the notices say. “If this happens, the block heater could short circuit when it’s plugged in.”

Both recall notices were first published on Jan. 9, and later updated on Thursday.

The first recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L engine, Transport Canada said.

The affected models are:

Ford Escape, model years 2013 to 2019
Ford Focus, model years 2013 to 2018
Lincoln MKC, model years 2015 and 2016
The second recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2025-554 and cites the same issue with the engine block heater.

The affected models listed in the second recall notice are:

Ford Bronco, model years 2021 to 2024
Ford Bronco Sport, model years 2021 to 2024
Ford Escape, model years 2020 to 2022
Ford Explorer, model years 2016 to 2024
Ford Focus, model years 2016 to 2018
Ford Maverick, model years 2022 to 2024
Ford Ranger, model years 2019 to 2024
Lincoln Corsair, model years 2020 to 2022
Lincoln MKC, model years 2016 to 2019
According to the recall notices, Ford will advise owners by mail to take the affected vehicle to a dealership to replace the block heater.

In the meantime, owners are advised not to use the engine block heater until the repairs have been completed, Transport Canada said.
