Israel expects Hamas to respond to US ceasefire proposal by Friday: Arab media |An Arab media outlet says Israel expects the Islamic group Hamas to respond to a US ceasefire proposal for the Gaza Strip by Friday.

It also says an Israeli delegation will join indirect talks to conclude an agreement if Hamas gives a positive response.

Several media outlets say the proposal calls for Hamas to release 10 living hostages and return the bodies of 18 others to Israel in stages.

They say it also seeks negotiations to end the fighting to be held during the ceasefire.

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel had agreed to conditions to finalize a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. He is urging Hamas to follow suit.

Hamas is seeking guarantees that the truce will lead to a permanent end to the hostilities.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military continued its fierce attacks on Gaza on Thursday.

Health officials in Gaza say 118 people have died in the territory over the past 24 hours. They add that the death toll in the enclave since the start of the fighting in October 2023 has climbed to 57,130.
