While Black dandyism is this year’s theme, previous galas have seen Rihanna and Doja Cat push fashion envelopes. Shah Rukh Khan makes’ a Met debut this year
NEW YORK (AP) — Fashion’s biggest night got underway Monday at the Met Gala in a rainy Manhattan.
This is the first Met Gala to focus exclusively on Black designers, and the first in more than 20 years to have a menswear theme. This year’s theme is based on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Among the hosts are Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo and A$AP Rocky. LeBron James was made honorary chair but will not attend because of a knee injury.
On the big night of fashion, Shah Rukh Khan and Chappell Roan attend the Met Gala. Fashion’s biggest night did not fail to impress with the star-studded arrivals on the famed steps of Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The Met Gala is one of the most exclusive invitations in town and this year was no different.
The theme of the 2025 Met Gala was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which is based on the Costume Institute’s spring 2025 exhibition which opens to the public May 10 and runs through Oct. 26. It’s inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.”
