8 wounded at mass shooting in Chicago after Fourth of July celebration

Several people were killed or injured in a series of unrelated shootings that took place around Chicago following Fourth of July celebrations, police said.

The largest shooting occurred about 12:15 a.m. Friday, when the Chicago Police Department responded to the Little Italy neighborhood. Investigating officers found several people who had gunshot wounds, police said., according to USA Today

Investigators believe an exchange of gunfire took place between two individuals, leaving eight injured. The suspects have not been identified and fled the scene, police said.

The victims’ ages ranged from 18 years old to 74 years old and were listed in good or fair condition, authorities said:
