“Eritrean woman murdered in the street in Yvoir, ‘in front of friends’

The body of a 22-year-old Eritrean woman has been recovered from the River Maas in Yvoir (Namur Province – Wallonia). The local public prosecutor’s office has confirmed the news that appeared in the daily Sudpresse. The woman is believed to have died a violent death.

The woman’s body was found on Monday evening. According to Sudpresse, the victim was attacked in front of friends and thrown into the river.

Francophone broadcaster RTBF identifies the victim as a 22-year-old Eritrean woman living in a Red Cross reception centre in Yvoir.  It’s alleged that her throat was slit.

‘The case is being investigated and we are not commenting further at the moment,’ the public prosecutor’s office says. The investigation is being carried out by federal judicial police in Namur.
