The boy who fatally shot 15-year-old Holly Newton in a rampage in Northumberland has been identified as Logan MacPhail. The 17-year-old chased Holly around Hexham town center before stabbing her 12 times and stabbing her 19 times in just over a minute.
A boy who was with Holly at the time tried to help and was also stabbed.
MacPhail was convicted of manslaughter and malicious wounding in August, but could not be identified because of his age.
However, a judge has now ruled that MacPhail – who turns 18 on December 9 – can be appointed.
It is also reported that he had been in a relationship with Holly, but did not want to continue. Prosecutors said during the trial that she was “jealous” that she was with a young man.
