Keir Starmer alleged to have broken rules over party donor’s gifts to wife

There have been calls for Sir Keir Starmer to be investigated for allegedly violating parliamentary rules by not declaring clothing donations for his wife.

At first, the gifts that well-known Labour donor Lord Alli gave to Victoria Starmer were not listed in the register of MPs’ interests.

The Starmers’ connections to prominent Labour donor Lord Alli were the subject of a full investigation demanded by the Tories.

Within 28 days, MPs must register donations and gifts.

According to The Sunday Times, the prime minister received updated guidance on what needed to be registered and used that information to approach the parliamentary authorities on Tuesday to make a belated declaration.

It was also reported that the donations paid for Lady Starmer’s clothes, alterations, and personal shopper before and after Labour won the July election.

“We sought advice from the authorities on coming to office,” a No. 10 spokeswoman stated.

“We thought we had been compliant, but this month, after additional interrogation, we have declared additional items.”
