According to French police, eight people lost their lives over night while attempting to cross the Channel from France to England.
After 01:00 local time (00:00 BST), rescue services were notified when the boat encountered difficulties in waters north of Boulogne-sur-mer in Pas-de-Calais.
Shortly after departing the coast with fifty people on board, the rubber boat began to sink.
It happened less than two weeks after a boat carrying dozens of migrants sank, killing 12 people—six of them children and one pregnant woman.
