A special parliamentary election will test Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party as pressure grows for the prime minister of Canada to step down as leader of the party before the next general election.
The vote on Monday, known as a by-election, is intended to represent a southwest Montreal electoral district that has historically been a Liberal Party stronghold and to fill a vacancy in Parliament.
However, recent polls indicate that the Liberals, the left-leaning New Democratic Party (NDP), and the Quebec nationalist Bloc Quebecois are in a tight race.
