The body of Narin Guran was found in a bag in a river in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, around one kilometer from the village where she lived with her family.
“Narin Guran was found dead wearing the same clothes as the last time she was seen,” said Zorluoglu
ANKARA: The interior minister announced on Sunday that an extensive manhunt had resulted in the discovery of the body of an eight-year-old girl who had been missing in Turkiye for 19 days.
Diyarbakir governor Murat Zorluoglu told reporters that Narin Guran’s body was discovered in a bag in a river in the province’s southeast, about a kilometer from the village where she and her family resided.
The body of Narin, who vanished in Tavsantepe village, has sadly been discovered, according to a post made by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya on X, a platform that was formerly Twitter.
After she vanished on August 21, there was a massive search and rescue operation in Turkiye, and several celebrities joined the “Find Narin” social media campaign.
Zorluoglu stated, “Narin Guran was found dead wearing the same clothes as the last time she was seen.”
“After she was killed, according to the initial observations, she was placed in a bag. Then, in order to avoid drawing attention, the bag was thrown into the river and concealed beneath boulders and branches,” he continued.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced that 21 people had been arrested by Diyarbakir prosecutors.
Last week, the uncle of the girl was taken into custody on charges of murder and “deprivation of liberty.”
Fahrettin Altun, the president’s director of communications, stated on X that “our president Recep Tayyip Erdogan is following the case closely to guarantee that the ongoing investigation continues thoroughly and that those who took Narin’s life answer before the law.”
The pro-Kurdish DEM party in Turkey has announced that a march will occur in Diyarbakir on Sunday night.
“Narin’s death was a planned event. DEM posted on X, “Those responsible for this murder, which has saddened us all, must be exposed and held accountable before an independent and unbiased justice system.”
“Those responsible for Narin’s death will be brought to justice,” stated Tunc on X.
