Sedition convictions of two journalists in court are seen as a setback to press freedom in Hong Kong.

Two former editors of Stand News are found guilty of sedition by a Hong Kong court. A court in Hong Kong found two editors of the now-closed Stand News media outlet guilty of plotting to release seditious publications on Thursday. The case has garnered attention from around the world amidst heightened security measures in the city, which is ruled by China.

Chung Pui-kuen and Patrick Lam, the two editors, could serve a maximum of two years in prison. After Hong Kong was turned over from Britain to China in 1997, this is the first instance of a journalist or editor being found guilty of sedition.
