Man shot dead in Brussels bar. In the Koekelberg municipality of Brussels, a man was fatally shot inside a bar. The location of the shooting was the Chez Ova bar, which is close to Koekelberg Town Hall. The man’s death has been confirmed by the Brussels West Local Police Service, although the exact cause of death is still unknown. A suspect is in custody.
Local resident alerted police after they heard gunshots at around 10pm on Thursday. Officers went to the bar that is on the Sint-Annakerkstraat where they found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he died at the scene.
Detectives gathered forensic and other evidence while barricading off the area surrounding the establishment. The case has been assigned to an examining magistrate.
The Brussels regional news platform Bruzz was informed by Chief Inspector Martijn Baes of the Brussels West Local Police Service that “a suspect was apprehended in another municipality during the course of the night.”
It is still unclear what exactly happened during the shooting and why it happened. The public prosecutor’s office will not verify the report that the man died from gunshot wounds, despite reports to the contrary.
