The state seismologist said no damage was expected from the temblor although it warned that aftershocks are possible.
The United States Geological Survey, meanwhile, said the shallow earthquake was at 6.8-magnitude, and that it hit 20 kilometers (12 miles) from the village of Barcelona on the east of Mindanao island.
